Living Red Mars

If you have read the Kim Stanley Robinson Mars trilogy perhaps you remember the Mars First group that was introduced in the first book Red Mars.  Founded by the character Ann Clayborn, the geologist, the Firsters were keen on keeping the Red Planet its natural self.  They were dead set against terraforming.  I never thought I’d be living the artist’s life in an environment close to a Firster’s Dream.

My husband, Chris, is a geologist and when he was offered an expat assignment to Oman, my first reaction was, “Where?”  After some internet surfing, I knew I wanted to experience this amazing place, so unlike the stereotypical Arab nation.  And a Geologist’s Dream.

I am here

Oman as “Red Mars” … sorta

In becoming the “trailing spouse” I was able to pursue my goal of becoming a better artist.  Our kids were adults and I had retired from my job as a microbiologist in industry. Nothing stopping me now.   It has been here in Oman where I have enjoyed more art classes from outstanding artists willing to share their knowledge than I had in the United States.  [See “What’s My Story?” for my art CV.]  Thanks to the guidance and later, friendship, of these amazing people, I have been able to realize my dream of living the artist’s life.  I’m very glad to share the adventure with you, letting you explore the beautiful country that is the Sultanate of Oman, travel with me as I get to take advantage of the nearness of Europe, and meet the people around the world who have made my life a wonderful journey.  Welcome to “It’s an Artist’s Life.”

Hugs and stay creative!
