“After van Gogh: The Mill House”

HERE'S THE STORY
The first series of art classes I took in Oman was offered by Russian born, Omani artist Anna Dudchenko. She had the class study the works of the Impressionists and we were to paint in the particular style of each painter. Always loving Vincent Van Gogh, this was a no-brainer for me. I chose one of his paintings that doesn’t get viewed very often. The original Van Gogh “The Mill House” is in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, Buffalo, New York, USA. I haven’t had a chance to meet this painting in person.
I’ve done a series of these paintings, two with Anna, and one on my own. Copying works from the masters follows a long history of art instruction. The Impressionists themselves often obtained a “copyist’s permission” to paint inside the Louvre. I love walking in the footsteps of the great artists who came before and learning new things in the process. And since I love the Impressionists, I hope to do more of these studies in the future.
