HERE'S THE STORY

Jabal Akhdar (the Green Mountain) is a wonderful place to relax and get some relief from the desert temperatures down at sea level. It can be as much as 10 degrees Celsius cooler up there. This heard of donkeys sure seemed to be enjoying it. My husband and I came across them as we were driving on one of the plateaus in the mountains. The male stared us down from the middle of the road until his family crossed the street. I was practically hanging out the car window shooting pictures, especially of the fuzzy little one. Another SUV with an Omani family pulled up behind us, with their dad, as the driver, wondering why we were stopped. Then his kids spotted the little donkey and all rushed to that side of the vehicle. The Omani man caught my husband’s eye and shrugged his shoulders with a huge grin on his face as if to say,” What are you going to do?” My husband grinned back as the two men shared this cross-culture communication over the foibles of women and children and fuzzy animals. After the donkey family was safely across, Papa Donkey cleared the road and we drove on, followed by our new Omani friends. We all got great shots though!
