HERE'S THE STORY

This drawing is based on a photograph I found on the Internet – thanks to the unknown photographer who snapped this shot. This old woman just captivated me and I had to spend the time with her, drawing that face. The lines tell a story, I’m sure, as does that little bit of bling in the form of her nose ring. It seems that the older women in Oman don’t mind as much having their pictures taken. You should always be polite enough to ask unless you are at a big public event like the Muscat Festival where the participants have all agreed to have their pictures taken. There are so many older people in Oman that I’d just like to sit with and hear their stories. The changes they have seen since they were alive before His Majesty, Sultan Qaboos Al Said ascended the throne, must be amazing. An afternoon with a cup of qawa (Omani cardamom coffee) would be a pleasure.
